Caespitos, mit dickem, verholztem Stängel und zahlreichen aufrechten Blütenstängeln 15-40(-60) cm; Internodien sehr lang, die unteren rau mit winzigen Flaumhaaren, die oberen kahl. Grundständige Blätter etwas fleischig, kugelförmig, gekerbt, Rand stark bewimpert; oberer Teil sehr klein, linealisch. Blütenstand klein, (1)2- bis 5-blütig. Kelch 7-11 mm, korallenartig, etwas säulenförmig, mit breiten, einfachen Adern; Zähne spitz, offen, bewimpert. Blütenblätter rötlich, grünlich oder bräunlich-violett; Schuppen der Kronblätter klein. Kapsel 6-9(-12) mm, leicht (oder manchmal deutlich) über den Kelch hinausragend; Karpophore ca. 3 mm, behaart.


Vorkommen: Europa  - Gebirge im südlichen Teil der Balkanhalbinsel.
