Das Fruchtfleisch wird gegessen, die Samen werden gekocht und gegessen.
Medizinisch:
Die Fruchtkapseln wirken adstringierend, die Rindenabkochung wird bei subkutanen parasitären Infektionen, Magenschmerzen, Lungenproblemen, Wunden und Zahnschmerzen verwendet, verbrannte Blätter werden extern auf Schlangenbisse gegeben.
